Sit, type, work, repeat. Sound familiar? This is probably the routine most of us face each day at work. It gets lifeless, mundane, and tends to block our creative juices from flowing…Not a good look for a career in communications where creativity and connection are ESSENTIAL!
As assignments pile up and deadlines sneak up, we forget to connect with those around us. We forget that laughter is often the best medicine and that music can lift our spirits at any moment.
But here at Let It Shine, we remember to always work hard and play even harder! Now, this doesn’t mean playing hooky every Friday or slacking off whenever your boss isn’t around. It means making a conscious effort to CONNECT, SPREAD JOY, AND EMBRACE LIFE when engaging in your line of work.
Playtime in the office is as simple as these few steps:
- Share songs with your co-workers! Let them in on your workout playlist or the tunes you jam to in the shower. This is a perfect way to find common ground and build close relationships with your team.
- Make each other laugh! Sharing a good laugh with someone can turn the worst of days into one full of sunshine. Find a funny video or quirky joke and send it your co-worker’s way. Chances are they’ll get a kick out of it too and let you know just how happy it made them feel.
- Don’t just sit…STAND! Your muscles were certainly made for walkin’! Sitting for hours on end is bound to drive you into insanity. Take a moment each day to get up and walk around your work space. Even standing up while talking on the phone can get your blood flowing and cause your creative juices to regain their strength!
- Fresh Air, Fresh Hair! The musty air of an office space can certainly get you down. That’s why it’s important to step outside for a minute and breathe in the cool, crisp, and calm outdoor oxygen! Take a moment each day to walk outside and catch a fresh breeze. Take in the sights, smells, and sounds you encounter as fuel for your next creative project. And trust us…Catching some wind in your hair is always a good idea too!
There’s great power in the practice of healthy playtime in the office. Try a few of these steps and see for yourself! We guarantee you’ll find ample amounts of creativity and create lasting connections.
