From avoiding the smallest of spiders to the greatest of heights, fear can manifest itself in a variety of ways.
The only way to challenge our fear is to turn it into courage! There really is no truth in fear. It’s an emotion that preys upon our deepest vulnerabilities to bring to the surface a mix of feelings we often can’t ignore.
Imagine- your fear of the dentist is enough to make your teeth chatter! You can’t stop thinking of the drills, sharp objects, and that squeaky chair and blinding light you’ll get to call home for the next hour or two. The very thought of attending your appointment sends you into an endless spiral of anxious thoughts and feared intentions.
But what if instead of giving in, you challenged your fear? You researched the procedures instead of assuming the worst. You planned your travel to the dentist’s office instead of avoiding putting your car key into the ignition. And, most importantly, you asked questions instead of avoiding dialogue with every dental practitioner you encounter.
Courage can be achieved in every aspect of life we meet! All that’s required of us is to embrace our bravery and do our best to let our anxieties fade.
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”- FDR
